Big money Scrabbler: 1996 national champ Ronald Credo struck anew this past weekend, ruling the 1998 Laguna Scrabble Tournament with 11.5 points out of a possible 14 and winning the top prize of P10,000. The two-day tournament held at the beautiful Lakeview Hotel in downtown Los Banos drew 29 players including a Singaporean and several players who have international experience.

Tony Malonzo, who has demonstrated tremendous improvement, finished second while internationalist Tanjee Rabong took third. Oscar Rivera was fourth while Leo Capuno was fifth, just ahead of Maida Manaog and US campaigner Odette Rio.

The newly-formed Philippine Suburbia Scrabble Club, the event organizers, wish to thank the following principal sponsors who made the Laguna Invitational a success: the management of Lakeview Hotel for the free use of the air-conditioned function hall, Mr. and Mrs. Vellon of Sto. Tomas, Batangas, Mr. and Director Nilo Ercia of the Calamba Rural bank, and Col. and Mrs. Malonzo.
