Ramadan 2003 Tournament Results

Hi everyone! I hope you are all in good stead.

Yesterday, Nov.  26, 2003, a special SCAPI rated tournament was held in Morayta, Manila.  12 players responded and played a 9-round competition.  The results:

1. Bonnie Macala      8    437
2. Tanjie Rabong      6    553
3. Andronico Aquino    6    169
4. Mario Miranda      5    121
5. Oscar Rivera        5    85
6. Rolly Mandapat      5    -4
7. Marlon Prudencio    5    -36

10. Leo Capuno          3    -92
11. Alberto Palomo      3    -156
12. Delio Dimaano      0    -500

After the tournament, a caucus was held and it was agreed to have another tournament in the same venue on Saturday, December 6, 2003.  Everybody is invited, and please spread the word around.  This will be the last rated tournament before the Philippine version of the Superstar Scrabble Tournament.

The Superstar will be held on December 20-21, the venue is still under negotiation.  Most likely it will be held in Calamba City in Laguna.

The top 24 players in the current ratings are qualified to play.  The winner will receive a trophy as the 2003 Scrabbler of the Year, plus cash prizes now beign solicited by Robbie Onate and Delio Dimaano.

Marlon Prudencio raised out some issues about the ratings now is existence.  In the absence of a better system, it was agreed to continue using it.  The members were requested to do their own research and share it with the Ratings Committee headed by Rolly Mandapat.

The idea of getting the most consistent player will automatically get the first slot for the 2005 WSC. The other two representatives will be chosen from the results of the 2005 Nationals.  "Most consistent" will run for about two years.

The suggestion of Marlon to make the champion of the 2004 Nationals, to be held in Baguio City, as automatic representative to the WSC was shelved for further studies.

I hope to see you December 6!  Regards.
