Players showed up and competed in the 1st HARMONY Scrabble Tournament, held on July 24, 2005 at the Firewood Pizza and Restaurant in Liberty Center, Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. For those who are curious, HARMONY is the bingo word of MAR + HY + NO, which are the first few letters of the first name of the tourney organizers
- Marlon Prudencio, Hyatt Basman and Nora Labog.
The 1st round started at exactly 10:30am as planned and the tourney concluded at 6:30pm.
After 9 rounds, Marlon Prudencio topped the field with 8 wins and 1 loss. It was a superb feat by Prudencio, who crawled from the last board (after a first round beating by Tabasa by a whopping 166 points) to the top by embarking on his high scoring game (averaging 432 pts/game) and retaliating against Tabasa in the 6th, 7th and 8th round, to clinch the championship. A 'modified' Gibson rule was applied in the last round as sanctioned by SCAPI President Mario Miranda.

Sidelights:
1. The players enjoyed a word-guessing game in between rounds. A letter combination is flashed and whoever guesses the bingo word first, wins an easy 20 pesos
(pambawi sa pamasahe :).
The letter combinations flashed are the following (see if you

2. After 3 rounds, the players savored a hearty lunch (compliments
of the tourney organizers) complete with soup, side dish, rice, viand and drink. Just before the
4th round, another word game was played where each player was given a sheet containing a 20-item 7-letter
combinations of bingo words that they need to figure out in 6 minutes. John Tabasa won a cool 100 pesos by
getting 13 correct answers. Mario Recedes came 2nd with 11.
